Awarded SFSG grants 2026

Five prominent early career researchers recieve the Swedish Foundations’ Starting Grant
The Swedish Foundation’s Starting Grant, SFSG, is a collaboration between seven private research funders who strongly believe in supporting early career researchs who have the potential to become leading researchers in their fields. The call targets researchers, based in Sweden, who received the highest score on their ERC Starting Grant application but were not funded due to the limited budget of ERC. Five researchers receive funding this year. They will adress urgent topics in medicine, social science and physics.
- Amanda Andersson (Karolinska Institute) recieve funding from Erling-Perssons Stiftelse for the project Cell identity across foetal pancreas development and adult regeneration.
- Andreas Kohler (Umeå University) recieve funding from Kempestiftelserna for the project Quality Control of Mitochondrially-Encoded Proteins during Ageing.
- Anne-Lise Viotti (Lund University) recieve funding from ÅForsk for the project Revisiting table-top XUV light generation with ultrafast optics.
- Daniela Calvigioni (Linköping University) recieve funding from Ragnar Söderbergs stiftelse for the project Can fluctuations in estradiol change how we perceive the world around us?
- Felix Bender (Malmö University) recieve funding from Riksbankens jubileumsfond for the project Democratizing Refugee Camps.
– The aim of the call is to give the researchers an opportunity to work on their proposed projects and do ground breaking research. We believe that this will give them a competitive advantage the next time they apply for ERC funding, says Anna Wetterbom, CEO of Ragnar Söderbergs stiftelse and coordinator of the SFSG collaboration.
