Grant writing workshops is one of the supporting activities that SFSG partners fund in order to increase the number of researchers in Sweden who apply for – and are awarded – ERC grants. Four such workshops were funded in 2023: in Luleå and Umeå by Kempestiftelserna, and in Lund and Stockholm by Ragnar Söderbergs stiftelse.

The workshops are co-funded by the hosting university and they select approximately 20 competitive participants. The workshop program runs from lunch to lunch and includes seminars with experts on ERC grant writing and budgeting, previous reviewers and successful applicants. Applicants also bring a synopsis for their application that is discussed in groups where they receive constructive feed back.

We fund the writing workshops as a pilot and although it is still too early to evaluate if they have had a substantial impact on the number of researcher who receive ERC grants we know that they are much appreciated by the participants.

” Really useful to meet the other applicants to discuss strategies and fears about applying. “

” My expectations went beyond well. The talks were great and I also very much like to talk about my proposals with others. “

“I t certainly broadened my perspective on aspects that are key, versus less important to focus on, when writing an ERC-proposal. ”
